Art puts me in touch with worlds that lie just beyond the reaches of the

senses. Drawing and painting is a way for me to externalize my thoughts

and to bring to life the inner worlds within the realms of the concious and

subconscious. Inspiration for my work comes from a variety of things.

Sometimes I base my paintings on stories. I am curious about the inner

worlds of writers such as Franz Kafka and Edgar Allen Poe and I strive to

match the eccentricities of their writing styles with that of my own work.

I am inspired by the monsters that live in the closets and under the beds

of children. I am also fascinated by the way people consume mass media,

or more importantly, by the way that mass media consumes people. This

is a recurring theme that underlies much of my work in different ways.

Edward R. Shaw studied fine art at the Hartford

Art School where he graduated with a BFA in 1997. He is a New Haven based

freelance illustrator, painter, muralist, and art instructor.

He recently began working as a tattoo artist at Tattoo International in Wallingford, CT.

With over ten years of experience in the field of illustration and fine art, his

award winning work has been featured on the walls of the Society of

Illustrators as well as countless personal collections, coffee shops, music

venues and galleries around the New Haven area. Shaw specializes in
